Shigar is yet another picturesque valley in Baltistan region. At a distance of 51.6 km (1 hour 40min drive) east from shurdu city the valley is built on the banks of Shigar River. The road leading to Shigar is one of the most beautiful paths and the most instagramed. In some places the road goes straight for a long way and then twists and turns start. The valley is surrounded by snowcapped mountains.The Shigar area is has some historical places you can visit. Amburiq mosque is one such place. Considered one of the oldest mosques in South Asia, built of mud and wood, the structure looks ancient. Before 16th century the building used to be a Buddhist place of worship but later with the spread of Islam it was converted into a mosque. The mosque is also a recipient of 2005’s UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation. Besides Amburiq mosque Shigar also have many other architectural and archeological treasures that include Khanqah-Mullah, Astana of Syed Mir Yahya, the Khilingrong mosque, and Shigar Fort.
